Q: What are the Benefits of receiving a Reiki Treatment?
A: Benefits range from simple relaxation and release of stress and tension to feelings of general well being to the amazing and miraculous.

Q: Is Reiki a Religion?
A: No. Reiki is spiritual in nature but is not part of any religion.

Q: How long does a Treatment Take?
A: The standard Reiki treatment – or full-body Reiki – takes approximately one hour. Mini, or spot treatments are often beneficial, as well.

Q: Is touch necessary when receiving a Treatment?
A: No. Reiki energy flows whenever a Reiki practitioner’s hands are placed anywhere over the body. However, most people prefer a caring professional’s actual touch and. The touch is always discreet (hands never touch any private area).

Q: Do I have to take my clothes off in order to receive a treatment?
A: No, definitely not. You are asked to remove your shoes, glasses, a watch or any heavy jewelry, but you remain fully clothed during a Reiki treatment.

Q: Can you explain exactly what happens during a Reiki treatment?
A: The client usually lies on a massage table (or sits in a chair). The Reiki practitioner gently places his/her hands on or near the body in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, stomach, knees, feet and back. Each position is held for a few minutes, based on the client’s needs. Reiki/Universal Life Force energy, combined with the client’s own energy, is then directed to bring balance to the body’s energy centers.

Q: What conditions can be treated with Reiki?
A: Reiki energy has a positive effect on negative feelings and on all forms of disorders and illnesses. The side effects of medical treatments can be reduced or eliminated - this includes the negative effects of chemotherapy, post-operative pain and transplants. Reiki has been found helpful in healing depression, grief, insomnia, poor memory and sports injuries.

Q: What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
A: Most people receiving a Reiki treatment express feelings of deep relaxation. Some express joy. Some feel a reduction of aches and pains. As the Reiki energy begins to flow, one releases tension, anxiety, anger, grief, fear and other negative feelings. A state of peace and well-being is experienced, and, at the end of a session, most people feel refreshed and have a more positive, balanced outlook than they did before the treatment.

Q: Are Reiki treatments only for adults?
A: Babies and children often respond enthusiastically to the Reiki energy. Treatments are kept necessarily rather short due to a child’s limited attention span and / or their inability to sit still for long. But most of us are well aware of a child’s need for loving touch and Reiki brings with it a sense of loving care and comfort.

Animals, as well as human beings, are most receptive to Reiki. Of course, we cannot know what animals actually experience when receiving Reiki but it is a fact that hyperactive animals or those under stress become noticeably quieter when being treated.

Since Reiki manifests itself in all living things, plants, trees and seeds benefit from this loving treatment. When giving Reiki to cut flowers Reiki is given to the water contained in the vase because the Reiki energy is charging the molecules in the water.

Q: Where does the energy come from?
A: Reiki energy comes from a Higher Source. It comes from a transcendental part of ourselves that is connected to an infinite supply of healing energy. Some call this God, others a Higher Power and still others consider it simply the Life Force.

Q: Can I learn Reiki?
A: Absolutely. Reiki is a very simple technique that anyone can learn. Basic techniques for self-healing can be learned during a weekend class. The ability to give Reiki is transferred from the Master teacher to the student through a process called attunement. This takes place during a Reiki class.

Q: Do I have to stop seeing my regular doctor or stop taking medications while receiving Reiki treatments?
A: By no means. Reiki is considered an integrative modality of healing and it is recommended that one see a health care professional in addition to receiving Reiki. Reiki works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs and surgery.

Q: How often should I receive a Reiki treatment?
A: That’s entirely up to the individual. The important things to keep in mind are that a Reiki treatment always heals in some way - in body, mind and/or spirit - and a full-body treatment brings the energy systems in the body into balance. The effects of the healing are cumulative and therefore it follows that the more often one receives a Reiki treatment, the more in-balance and healthier one will be.

Q: How much does a treatment cost? Does insurance cover it? Do practitioners need to be licensed?
A: The average cost for a full-body treatment is between $50 and $100. To date, insurance does not cover treatment, though it might be well to inquire about it with your individual insurance company. At this time, there are no governmental licensing programs; however, every practitioner must be certified, and, before choosing a Reiki therapist it would be wise to ask to see his or her credentials.
